Professor Dr. Kosta Gouliamos is the Rector of the European University of Cyprus.
He elected (2018) Ordinary Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
He is Professor of Politics, Culture and Communication.
He awarded the title of Honorary Professor at Lanzhou City University, Nanyang Normal University and Wuhan Business University in China.
He studied political sciences in Greece; he holds a PhD from Panteion University/ Athens, Greece. Prior to this, he received a special two-year grant by the Ministry of Education/Republic of Greece to do his doctor research work in Canada.
Before coming to Cyprus in 2000, Professor K. Gouliamos was scientific collaborator at Panteios University(Greece) and, also, taught and researched for more than fifteen (15) years at leading Canadian universities (University of Ottawa, Carleton University). He also served as an elected Secretary (1994-1996) for RUSELC - an interuniversity and interdisciplinary critical-oriented research center in Canada.
He was President of the Cyprus Rector’s Conference (2015-17).
In March 2017, the European University Association (EUA) appointed him Council Member of Experts for ‘Research and Innovation Strategies for Smart Specialization’ RIS3’ Expert Group ; the Expert Group establishes and maintains a working dialogue with the European Commission/European Union and with other major stakeholders in research and innovation policy in its areas of expertise.
He also appointed (2007-) by the European Commission /Research Directorate General – European RTD Evaluation Network in Brussels: European Union.
Professor Gouliamos appointed for six years Member to the Steering Committee for Higher Education & Research (CDED) of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg (France).
In addition, he served for six years (2005-2011) as Member of the Standing Committee for the Humanities of the European Science Foundation (ESF).
According to the University of Toronto Quarterly, his research work - along with Professor W. Anselmi – qualifies him to “the Frankfurt School's…epigones...”.
Professor K. Gouliamos was Member of the Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) of the European Social Survey (ESS): an innovative research project that won Europe’s top social science award, the Descartes Prize. The project funded jointly by the European Commission, the European Science Foundation (ESF) and academic funding bodies in each participating country.
Prof. Gouliamos has written an extensive number of books, chapters and papers on issues pertinent to media, culture, communication and politics with a critical perspective and approach. He has also contributed to two (2) World Reports on ‘Media, Culture and Communication’ (published in 1996 and 1997 by the International Institute of Communication in U.K)
He was one of the academic scholars who represented Canada and participated as discussant in the process of “Our Creative Diversity- Report of the World on culture and Development”, organized by UNESCO ( published by Egoprim in France (1995).
In his co-edited volume “Mediating Culture: the politics of representation” (Montreal, New York, Toronto-Guernica, 1994) among contributors were Noam Chomsky, Cornelius Castoriadis, Nicos Poulantzas and other influential intellectuals of social sciences and humanities.

a.) Selected - listed in the Volume of the International Bibliography of the Social Sciences (IBSS) produced by the London School of Economics & Political Science (recognized as a center of excellence for social sciences recourses by the European Union);
b.) Translated into several languages {French, Spanish, Slovak, Chinese, Italian},
c.) Included in the curricula of some of the best fifty universities of the world.
Upon his appointment (2009) as Editor of the “Journal of Critical Studies in Business & Society” brought to the Editorial Board internationally known scholars such as +Ulrich Beck, Fredric Jameson, +Ernesto Laclau, Martin Jay, Douglas Kellner, Bob Jessop,Stanley Aronowitz, Bruce Newman, Mark Poster, Saskia Sassen, Cees Hamelink, Ien Ang , Andrew Ross, Sut Jhally, Robert Babe,Vincent Mosco etc.
He serves or/and served as member of the Editorial Board of several leading academic journals, including the Journal of Political Marketing (Taylor & Francis), the Journal of Organizational Change Management (Emerald) and the Journal of Public Affairs (Wiley-Blackwell).
Professor Dr. Kosta Gouliamos has taken part in numerous international conferences and he has given many lectures as a keynote speaker in a number of high-ranking academic institutions in Europe, North America and Australia.
He has also served on review panels – as Rapporteur and Referee - for the European Science Foundation (ESF), high – ranking journals, publishing houses and major academic associations.
The first Panhellenic Conference of Political History (2014), organized by the University of Western Macedonia/Greece, was dedicated to his work.
A broadly respected scholar, Professor Dr. Kostas Gouliamos is known for his distinctly critical approach and study on socio-cultural issues.
He introduced (w/c Dr. Ant. Theocharous) the concept “marketing of war” which further explored and developed in his book “The Marketing of War in the Age of Neo-Militarism” (w/c Dr. Christos Kassimeris) and published by Routledge Advances in Sociology; this series – according to the publisher – presents cutting-edge developments and debates. It provides a broad range of case studies and the latest theoretical perspectives, while covering a variety of topics, theories and issues from around the world.
His volume (w/ Newman and Theocharous) "Political Marketing: Strategic Campaign Culture" is also published by Routledge (2013) and included – among other libraries - in the National Library of China.

Professor Dr. Gouliamos was advisor for five years (2008-2013) to the President of the Republic of Cyprus.
Previously, he served as a senior communication & public affairs advisor to the Greek Government for three years (1996-1999).
In the same period, he appointed Member of the Academic and Experts Committee for Communication Policy Abroad by the Greek Government/Ministry of Communication.
Professor Gouliamos has worked as communication & public affairs advisor to several public and private organizations.
He took leading and/or coordinating roles in many multinational research projects funded by both European Agencies and Research Promotion Foundation (Cyprus) in the fields of political marketing/communication, social responsibility, culture, labor etc.
