On Thursday, April 20, 2023, at the headquarters of the Government of Romania, the first meeting of the National Mountain Council took place, chaired by the Prime Minister, General Nicolae Ciuca, in the presence of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Vice-President of the CNM, Petre Daea .
The meeting lasted 2 hours (14-16), with all elected or de jure CNM members present.

Emil Iugan, First Vice-President of FMR, honorary president of the FMR Branch, Bistrita-Nasaud, with a brilliant speech; Eng. Silviu Ponoran - President of the "Apuseni Mountains" Massif Committee and of the FMR-Alba Branch, Vice-President of the FMR, with the presentation of the first results of the inter-community Association "Motii - Tara de Piatra"; Eng. Ioan Agapi, former director of the Federation of Mountain Farmers-Dorna, elected representative of mountain farmers.
The representative of the Romanian Academy, the president of the FMR, prof. dr. Radu Rey brought up, in a direct dialogue with the Prime Minister, all the agro-zootechnical peculiarities, the chance to develop the mountain area by supporting family farms, the valorization of the "mountain product" in an associative-cooperative system, highlighting the specificity and importance of the mountain area from an economic point of view. social-cultural, spiritual and regarding national security and safety, the need to carry out mountain studies and projects for mountain basins (micro-regions).
The proposal to create 3 "pilot" areas at the microregional level, in a cooperative system, remains under discussion, as does the creation of a State Secretariat for the mountain area.
In the end, the proposal of Mr. Radu Rey was approved, that in May this year, the National Council of the Mountain should meet in Vatra Dornei, at the headquarters of CE-MONT, to continue the discussions and proposals that could not be addressed at the first meeting, due to limited time.
